Dietary fatty acid profiles shape crayfish biosynthesis and performance: Implications for riverine food webs

چکیده

Alteration of riverine flows can modify the structure and function ecosystems, changing energy pathways patterns micronutrient transfer between trophic levels. Fatty acids (FAs) commonly are used to evaluate food quality, since some FAs required for somatic growth physiological functions in animals must be obtained from their diet. also food-web studies as biotracers a consequence constrained metabolic biosynthesis by animals. However, utility may confounded selective retention or modification dietary consumers. We conducted 70-day feeding trial compare survival an abundant widespread mesoconsumer (Cherax destructor, common yabby crayfish) fed three contrasting diets: poor-quality detritus-based diet; high protein invertebrate high-quality commercial aquaculture pellet. acid profiles were each treatment contrasted with crayfish FA at end experiment examine integration. collected wild floodplain wetland river habitats, stomach contents body tissue experimental crayfish. Stimulation of fatty acid biosynthesis by dietary cholesterol and of cholesterol synthesis by dietary fatty acid.

We reported previously that dietary cholesterol produces hypertriglyceridemia in the rat, accompanied by reduced oxidation and increased incorporation of exogenous fatty acid into hepatic triglyceride and increased secretion of very low density lipoprotein. We now report that dietary cholesterol also increases net hepatic fatty acid synthesis and the incorporation of newly synthesized fatty aci...

Nutrient and fatty acid deposition in broilers fed different dietary fatty acid profiles.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different dietary fatty acid profiles on efficiency of energy, fat, nitrogen, and fatty acid deposition in broiler chickens. Sixty female broiler chickens were fed a basal diet without additional fat or with 4 other diets with different fats (tallow, olive, sunflower, and linseed oils) at 10% from 28 to 48 d of age. Among broilers fed diets w...

Fatty Acid Biosynthesis: Elongation

acids were detected as primary products of elonRoot surfaces are protected against the soil environment by the deposition of lignin and suberin. In order to obtain more insight into the regulation of root suberin biosynthesis, elongases from primary roots of corn (Zea mays L.) seedlings were characterized. Elongase activities (acyl-CoA and ATP-dependent) were located in the microsomal fraction ...

Food webs

Ecosystems, whether they are forests, lakes or coral reefs, consist of a diverse range of species that interact with each other in many ways. As ecologists we want to understand how these complex systems function as a whole and how they respond to human impacts such as harvesting and environmental change. A mechanistic understanding of the underlying biological processes will allow us to predic...

Control of Fatty Acid and Lipid Biosynthesis

When Euglena gracilis was grown under white (fluorescent) light in media containing high concentrations of ammonium chloride (more than 0.005%), the main lipids synthesized were monogalactosyl diglyceride, digalactosyl diglyceride, phosphatidyl glycerol, sulfolipid and the all eis 47,10-16:2, 47,10,13-16:3, Zl4,7,10,13-16:4, A9,12-18:2 and A9,12,15-18:3 fatty acids.
